PICASSO: A REVOLUTIONARY IN CREATIVE ART

Pablo Picasso was one of the most important and influential Spanish artists of the 20th century, known for his unique and distinctive style. He is recognized as the co-founder of Cubism. As many of you may know, one of his most iconic works was Guernica, a famous mural that denounces the horrors experienced during the Spanish Civil War. However, such was his obsession with art and the representation of reality that throughout his life, he created around 20,000 works based on freedom and creative innovation.

Pablo Picasso and the Representation of Reality through Cubism

Cubism was an artistic movement that broke with all conventional standards of art. Reality began to be understood and expressed in a new way. Perspective gained prominence in the artistic world, marking the beginning of a new era and way of representing life.

  • Objects and figures are broken down into geometric shapes like cubes, cylinders, and spheres.
  • Realistic representation is rejected in favor of a fragmented vision.
  • Instead of showing a single angle, multiple perspectives are presented simultaneously to capture a more complete and total view of the object.
  • Classical linear perspective is eliminated. Forms are arranged on a flat, almost two-dimensional space.
  • Common objects are depicted: musical instruments, bottles, newspapers, tables.

The Artistic Evolution of Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso went through different artistic periods:

  • Blue Period (1901–1904): Melancholic works with cool tones and themes of loneliness and poverty. During this time, he was influenced by primitive and African art.
  • Rose Period (1904–1907): Warmer colors, with circus and bohemian themes.
  • Analytical Cubism (1907–1912): Decomposition of forms into multiple planes. Shape takes precedence over color, with muted tones such as ochre, gray, brown, and green.
  • Synthetic Cubism (from 1912): Introduction of real materials (paper and fabric) in collage format, flatter forms, and more vibrant colors.

At Artgaudí, we are passionate about his art and his original and unique way of perceiving reality and everyday life. That’s why we offer all kinds of souvenirs (coasters, prints, puzzles, clothing, jewelry, mugs, bags, etc.) filled with his authenticity and uniqueness.
